Let’s talk about kindness in scenes, checking in with partners, and soft ways to connect.
It’s tempting to throw in a dramatic twist like an insult, an ambush, a betrayal but not everyone is ready for that on the spot. Always check first.
Try: “Hey would it be okay if my character snapped at yours here? Totally fine if not!”
It lets your partner prepare emotionally and IC. It also says, “I care how you feel.” That’s everything.
You don’t have to guess. You can ask. You’re not ruining the vibe you’re building trust.
Try: “Just checking are we still good on this tone?”
“Want me to pull back? Happy to adjust!”
These questions don’t make you difficult. They make you considerate.
Not everyone can reply fast. Not everyone masks well. Some of us get quiet when we’re overwhelmed and that’s okay.
If someone vanishes or pauses, don’t panic. Let them know they can return when they’re ready, and that nothing IC will fall apart.
Try: “Totally okay to pick this up later.”
“No pressure at all. I'm just happy to write when you are.”
Being safe means being able to pause without guilt.
Read the vibe. If your partner writes soft, slow scenes, don’t bulldoze with snark or chaos unless invited. Roleplay is like a waltz everyone leads sometimes but everyone listens too.
Try: “I love the gentle vibe of your post should I match that?”
I’ve been roleplaying since I was thirteen and I’m still learning what kindness means in shared storytelling. But I know this: Trust makes everything bloom.
